Ms. Lane-Hansen has 37 years of educational experience and has served as the Ocean Academy substitute principal over the past several years.  She is familiar with our school, staff and students as well as committed to the overall mission. Together with the staff, she will provide your child with the best education possible.

Meet The Team

  • Dr. Karen Senese
    Dr. Karen Senese School Psychiatrist

    Dr. Senese is a 1992 graduate of St. George’s University Medical School.  She completed her training at Robert Wood Johnson, UMDNJ.  She has been the Ocean Academy Psychiatrist since 2002, servicing our students on a weekly basis and is on call when we need her.  Dr. Senese is a valuable asset to our staff and  maintains a private practice in Toms River.

  • Lynn Newman
    Lynn Newman Supervisor of Clinical Services/School Social Worker

    Mrs. Lynn Newman is a licensed clinical social worker having earned her Master’s Degree of Social Work from Rutgers University.  Her undergraduate degree is in elementary and early childhood education.  She is a certified teacher and school social worker.  She coordinates the clinical staff, supervises our interns and assists where needed.

  • David Berman
    David Berman Teacher of the Handicapped

    Mr. Dave Berman has been a teacher at Ocean Academy since 2001.  Mr. Berman graduated from Monmouth University with a degree in Business Administration. After working in business for a few years he realized he wanted to teach children.  He returned to school and became a teacher of special needs students. He is highly qualified and certified to teach K-8 special education students.

  • Judy Crosta
    Judy Crosta Instructional Paraprofessional/Substitute Teacher

    Mrs. Judy Crosta has worked as an instructional aide and certified substitute teacher for Ocean Academy since 2004. Prior to this, she worked as a substitute teacher for Toms River Regional Schools and Ocean County Vocational Schools and as a substitute residential counselor for Ocean Mental Health.  She attended Union County College and Kean University.

  • Marianne Nunn
    Marianne Nunn Bus Driver/Instructional Paraprofessional

    Mrs. Marianne Nunn has been working at Ocean Academy since June 2004.  She is the school Bus Driver, Para-Professional and also works in the cafeteria.  She is also employed at night with the Bayside program as a driver; which is affiliated with Ocean Mental Health; she has been there for 7 years.  She enjoys both of her jobs and really loves helping the children of the programs .

  • Thomas Goldberg
    Thomas Goldberg History Teacher

    Mr. Thomas Goldberg earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Secondary Education from Wilkes University in Pennsylvania in 2012.  He has also obtained a Certificate of Eligibility to teach Social Studies at the Secondary level.  During the course of his collegiate career, he worked with students through programs such as CEO Kid’s Café and Big Brothers and Big Sisters of the Bridge.

  • Alyssa Saunders
    Alyssa Saunders School Social Worker

    Ms. Alyssa Saunders earned her Bachelor’s in Social Work from The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey in 2014. She earned her Masters of Social Work with a concentration in children and families from  Monmouth University in 2015. She has also received her school social worker certificate.


  • Heather Lacher
    Heather Lacher Instructional Paraprofessional

    Mrs. Heather Lacher graduated from Kean University with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Elementary Education.  During the course of her collegiate career, she worked as a substitute teacher for Brick Township School.  Prior to Ocean Academy, Heather has worked as an Instructional Assistant in the Special Education Department at Freehold Township High School.


  • Megan McQueen
    Megan McQueen Teacher of the Handicapped

    Megan McQueen earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in Special Education from New Jersey City University and is a certified Teacher of the Handicapped (PK-12).  Prior to working at Ocean Academy, she spent the past 10 years teaching a self-contained autism classroom in both public and private school settings.  Megan also provides in-home ABA therapy throughout the state and has recently completed her Masters Degree in Applied Behavior Analysis from Arizona State University.

  • Vanessa Hausser
    Vanessa Hausser Occupational Therapist

    Vanessa Hausser is a licensed occupational therapist who earned her Master’s of Science Degree from Shenandoah University in Winchester, Virginia.  She has worked in a variety of practice settings, including inpatient and day rehab, home health and early intervention.  Since 2004, she has worked in the educational setting serving many local school districts, grades pre- k to 12 in the Ocean County area.  She currently holds part-time positions with Ocean Gate and Bay Head Elementary Schools.  She also serves on the Targeted Evaluation Team for the New Jersey Early Intervention System.

  • Lisa Picciotto-Grassi
    Lisa Picciotto-Grassi Speech Language Pathologist

    Lisa PicciottoGrassi is a Speech Language Pathologist at Ocean Academy. She earned her Bachelors in Communication Science Disorders from Pace University in 2003, and her Masters in Speech/Language Pathology from New York Medical College in 2007.

    Lisa has recently completed coursework in Applied Behavior Analysis in Manhattanville College. She has been trained in Verbal Behavior and PROMPT therapy. Lisa’s professional interests include infant language development, autism spectrum disorders, and behavioral feeding disorders. She loves to collaborate with her colleagues, problem solve, and learn from her students and their families.

  • John Bernaski
    John Bernaski Health/Physical Education, Instructional Paraprofessional

    Mr. John Bernaski completed his Bachelor’s degree in the studies of Health and Physical Education in 2015. He has a wide range of experience in his past careers. Mr. Bernaski graduated from the Ocean County Police Academy in 2012 resulting in his exposure to handling crisis situations. Prior to Ocean Academy, his education experience derived from substitute teaching at Monmouth Reginal High School. From 2015-2017 he worked at Good Sports Allaire Country Day Summer Camp further broadening his skills in working with children.

  • Kara Armellino
    Kara Armellino Instructional Paraprofessional

    Ms. Kara Armellino received her Bachelors degree in Art and Secondary Education from Monmouth University and is a certified teacher of art. Ms. Armellino has taught art for over 10 years at Inspired Minds Fine Art School in Lincroft, NJ. Before starting at Ocean Academy, Kara  has worked at both the elementary and high school levels in West Long Branch, Spring Lake  and Newark, NJ.

  • Drennan Hayden
    Drennan Hayden Art Teacher

    Drennan Hayden, a graduate of TCNJ in 2009, is well traveled and brings a plethora of experience to Ocean Academy. His career has traced through a number of industries. He has installed tile floors, driven forklifts, painted murals, welded ornamental ironwork and tossed pizza. He served as a substitute teacher for the Freehold Regional District. For 3 1/2 years, he performed a number of duties in a partial care facility and work rehab program which included case management, operations management, warehousing, conducting group therapy and art therapy. In his personal time, Drennan is a talented and accomplished  painter & illustrator. Drennans broad and extensive experience allows him to to offer students a comprehensive educational experience.”

  • Joseph Falana
    Joseph Falana Math Teacher

    Mr. Joseph Falana is our new math teacher with 33 years of experience.  He is a graduate of Collingswood High School (NJ) and the University of Scranton (PA).  He was a three sport athlete in college playing soccer, ice hockey, and baseball.

    Mr. Falana has taught in Haddonfield High School (NJ) and Pennsauken High School (NJ) until now.  He also was the Head Boy’s Soccer Coach for Haddonfield HS and his teams won 625 games, 7 NJ State Championships, and 32 Conference Titles.  He is a member of numerous Halls of Fame as a player or coach.

    He is happily married and lives in Brielle NJ and looking forward to being a productive and successful teacher at Ocean Academy.

  • Kim Farrell
    Kim Farrell Teacher of the Handicapped

    Ms. Kim Farrell: Kimberly Farrell graduated from Georgian Court University in 1998 with a Bachelors in Special Education.  She has a Teacher of the Handicapped (K – 12) certification and is highly qualified to teach Math, English and History.  Prior to joining the staff at Ocean Academy, she was a high school special education teacher for 18 years.  During that time, she served on numerous committees and was an advisor to several clubs. Kim also has experience working with adults with disabilities out in the community and in a group home setting.  She is very excited to bring her love of learning to the students at Ocean Academy.
