A Christmas Carol at The Algonquin Theater

 In Ocean Academy

By: Charla Cole/Instructional Paraprofessional

In keeping with our month of holiday festivities, we took another trip to Algonquin Arts Theater to see the Charles Dickens’  famous classic ,“A Christmas Carol”. Featuring the miserly Ebenezer Scrooge, the cast of seasoned actors brought this story to life with beautiful musical performances and comedic dialog. As Ebenezer Scrooge encountered the three spirits of the past, present, and future, the students at OA learned about the importance of being kind, learning to forgive, and above all, to treat others as we would like to be treated.

Brought to us by the TheatreWorks USA production, it was a energetic and spirited performance with costumes and set props that gave us a sense of what life was like during that period of time. We all enjoyed this play and all of the performances at Algonquin Arts Theater this year. We can’t wait to go back in 2018!

Did You Know: “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens is one of the most beloved works of 19th-century literature, and the story’s enormous popularity helped make Christmas a major holiday in Victorian Britain.

The Christmas Carol was a great play to watch. I highly recommend anyone to watch, because the acting was so well done. The story was very different then the movie and book. But there was a lot of singing, and I really enjoyed the play. The play made it feel like you were there in the moment with them. Whoever doesn’t like plays, will defiantly like this one.

The Christmas Carol was very interesting play. I’ve watched plenty of the movies that are about this same story. So it was interesting to see it preformed live right in front of me! The Christmas Carol reminds me that even the most miserable of misers can achieve happiness and change their ways, (although… How the Grinch Stole Christmas has about the same message at the end). This was lovely!

I do love the theater! Going to see “A Christmas Carol” at the Algonquin Arts Theater was one of the most fun and pleasurable experiences I have had here at Ocean academy. Being able to see the actors up on the stage, moving around the props as if they were real, really brought the stage to life. And I personally have to give credit to the Stage Managers and sound crew. Without them there is no show and they certainly did a wonderful job! It truly was the experience of a life time. Especially for a lover of theater, such as myself!! I can’t wait to go back and see it again!!

I wasn’t able to see the play. So I can’t really say much regarding it. But I hope it was enjoyable for the people who saw it. And they probably had fun.

Great play, great actors, great day everything was just great. They should all get record deals for there wonderful voices. I liked how they was changing backgrounds in the middle of the play. I like how they made that thing really like a bed.

I always loved watching all the different retellings of Charles Dickens a Christmas Carol. My favorite version would have to be the Disney Mickey Mouse retelling. I have only been able to go see Christmas plays on television not in person. I would have loved to be apart of the play.

The actors were good. As well as the layout of the play was good. The lighting was perfect. Last but not least the props were on point.

I loved the trip to Manasquan it was a long ride but it was more then worth it. I’ve seen the Charles Dickens “A Christmas Carol” before but the experience at the Algonquin was amazing and breath taking. All the actors that were involved worked really hard and will be successful in life. I hope we have a trip to the Algonquin again soon!

Although I didn’t go to this particular play, I have seen plays of this story ad read it many times, so I can say that I do indeed say that I love this story because of the great story and the meaning behind the play. I can definitely recommend seeing the play or reading the book if you haven’t already.

I felt that It was quite an enjoyable play. I thought that the rotating props with the slanted bed were very creative. The actors made the play wonderful with their lighthearted attitude and colorful costumes. I hope that everyone had as much fun as us in their following performances.
