Charity Begins at Home

 In Ocean Academy

By: Mrs. Teresa Salisbury/ Instructional Paraprofessional

Thank you Holy Cross Lutheran Church for blessing OA families with a Thanksgiving feast!  They say “charity begins at home” and what better time than Thanksgiving to offer a helping hand.   Holy Cross reached out to Mr. Corbett with the offer of food for families from Ocean Academy to enjoy for Thanksgiving.  Our senior class was asked to participate in picking up the food and they jumped at the chance.  We boarded the bus excited with the opportunity to serve and went to Holy Cross to pick up the turkeys and all the trimmings.  With smiles on their faces the students lifted the heavy bins onto the school bus.  The talk turned to Thanksgiving plans and hopes for turkey, stuffing and of course pie.

The next day, Mr. Austin, Mrs. Marianne and several students set the route and began delivery of these amazing feasts.  The students were met by grateful families eager to plan their feasts. The students were thankful to help their fellow student and the community.  Ocean Academy is always thankful for the opportunity to involve our students in charitable acts.  What an important lesson to put others above yourself.  Thank you again Holy Cross Lutheran Church!

The more and more I read the blogs on the OMHS website, I realize what a great community we have. Here at OA we have an amazing amount of love for the community, and I just adore that. I can happily say, I am proud to call OA my school. Keep it up everyone!!

It really touches my heart to see how our OA community can get together and help many families in need this holiday season. As a recipient of a generous Thanksgiving dinner, I can say my Mom and I were extremely grateful for the help the school gave us as we have had a rough couple years. Thank you again to the staff and students at Ocean Academy and I am blessed to know so many sweet and generous people.
